Does your multihull have wings and where do you hang your anchor ball?

Erm... Isn't a catalina a LOT larger than a Cessna? A bit like Mirabella V is a LOT bigger than most AWBs

Surface Tension

Apparently they're notoriously tricky to control, especially on water for some reason.

The old Empire flying boats of Imperial Airways used to do a big run down their intended take-off path, waggling about to create a big wash. This would then provide enough chop for the hull to break surface tension as she took to the air.

Presumably wouldn't have to do that in some Solent anchorages, if some earlier posts about wash are anything to go by...

the catalina @ Duxford has wheels as well

Thats probably cause they are amphians! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Amphibian?

I'm not sure about that. The standard Catalina had beaching wheels, but they weren't intended as landing gear. There was a version used in Canada (called the Canso or similar from memory?) which was a true amphibian, but don't know which version they have at Duxford.

PS Would this be an example of thread drift?

Looks pretty amphibious to me.

Re: Plane talking

TK, I would say there was a fair chance the Dakota you saw was the one belonging to the Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight. It isn't seen too often flying with the Lanky, Spit & Hurricane, but is used as a transport aircraft ferrying crew, spare parts etc.

I recently wrote an article on the Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight on Wikipedia if you want to know more.

Re: Plane talking

no. But I did see what looked like a Dakota (to my totally uneducated eyes) flying north-south saturday afternoon. Probably same one?
