Where can i use my dinghy

This may sound like a silly question but I have a small dinghy with an outboard that I use in the river at the bottom of my garden. But where else can I use it? Can I just take it down to any beach (Boscome, Bournemouth, Lulworth Cove..) for example, push it into the sea and pootle around in it or do I need to go to a designated place or get permission to use it ?

Bye & large, yes, unless there are specific restrictions - be careful in off-shore winds and have some alternative means of propulsion (oars etc.) in case there is a problem with the outboard, also have a lifebelt available.

Yup there is no reason why you cant, just need to reconize the danger associated with the sea as opposed to a river. ie... tides. a solidy bottom boat would be better.

There are some places where outboards are not allowed due to the presence of swimmers. I believe Studland beach is one of them. You may also find parts of the beach around Bournemouth also have restrictions. I noticed the other day that the beach lifeguards were moving swimmers and surfers apart so they may not take too kindly to an outboard motor or even a dinghy.

Don't assume slipways are free!

Have a look at this web site for "official" launching places. Of course if you can carry the boat you may have still more options available to you.
