I have 4 Lifejackets made by COMPASS MARITIME LTD of Old Sarum Airfield, Salisbury in 1992 whom I believe are no longer in business. They were approx £100 each when we bought them. I am not certain but I am sure that the present Compass 24 Ltd and Compass Maritime Ltd are/were not the same company.

The Lifejackets are called Commodore II Automatic and are complete with an integral lifejacket. The lifejackets have been in the loft for the last six years and before that we always stored at home during the winter so they look to be in good condition. I have checked the capsule to see if the button has come out but they seem to be OK

What is the life of this type of Lifejacket and can anyone suggest where I can find a company who can service them. I live in Scotland

As the UK manager of Compass Watersports Ltd / Compass24, I would just like to confirm that we don't have anything to do with the old Compass Maritime at Old Sarum. However I remember them well in the old days before I started Compass in this country. If I remember the biggest problem was with the zip fastening around the edge. It was reset with a metal slider that was very susceptible to corrosion. I've never felt too happy about lifejackets using that system unless they are quite new and prefer the sort that are closed with velcro. The problem now is to find someone to look at them professionally. How about your local liferaft servicing centre? They can pessure test it, weigh the cylinders, inspect the webbing and check on the firing mechanism and give a report on the condition. Alternatively you could always buy new ones from us for £46.95. Just might be cheaper and you get new kit!
