I would now like to fit a pushpit to my 29 ft. sloop. They don't seem easy to find at the usual sources of second-hand boat parts. Do you happen to know where there might be one suitable ? Stainless and to fit a deck which is 38 inches wide at the stern.
Thanks,
Ken

As Tranona says, it might be hard to find one that fits. Pulpits are generally pretty bendable to fit any boat of the right general size, but pushpits are a lot less flexible (haha) as you have to have the right width of transom.

However, there is a two part one for a Sadler 290 on eBay at the moment for £290 - item number 230524464109. Otherwise it might be worth trying boat breakers.

Have you queried the good folk at The Chandlery Barge, at Bursledon Bridge. I seem to remember they'd cornered the market for the supply of one-careful-owner pushpits.

I was in there a few weeks ago and there were a couple just outside the "shop". I second the idea of giving them a call.

As mentioned it's a long shot, but you could try Chris at CB Marine, by Chichester Marina; 01243 511273; last time I was there he had a lot of pul & pushpits, there might be something which fits.

I don't know your area, but steel fabricators round here or in N Wales will make one to your pattern for a couple of hundred. I got one made for my first boat by a guy who used to do display stands for trade shows & I got a chunk of SR's replaced for 50 quid in N Wales, they straightened what they could & then welded a section in to get it to fit the measurements I gave them.

Measure out where the feet will go & sketch the general shape, if your deck is reasonably flat it will fit, if not, you will need to make a template of the deck curvature.

A friend of mine bought one from The Barge which was a bit big. Cut out the middle sections, readjusted the feet angles and voila ! He reckoned the cost of the pushpit plus the welding was about half what a new one would have been to fabricate. Not as pretty as a new one but did the job.

At his posh new unit? Sadly the image now given off by the 'smart office' at the front (the only thing you can now see from outside) gives off the impression "don't trouble us unless you are spending ££££". Same goes for the other practical trades now relocated at Chichester. I'm sure it IS only an impression ..... but all still rather sad.

Vic,

I haven't visited Chris for a while so am unaware of the new office; having grown up as an engineering apprentice I always really liked his old workshop, it was like a time machine !

Pushpit are usually custom made so the chances of finding a second hand one are very small

+1

For inspiration (and since term seems to confuse) try Google search for
'stern pulpit'
'rear pulpit'
'aft pulpit'
'agterpulpit'

One example:

Lenght forward from corner 740 mm
Width to centre opening from corner 430 mm
Height 600 mm

Price approx £355 incl VAT ex shipping
