Hello folks,
I am considering an Aquastar 33 aft cabin or similar as my next boat but find it difficult to get hold of any history for the company or the boat.
There has been some very useful stuff on this forum including comments about owners fitting out the boats themslves. This seems a bit worrying as quality could be variable.
Any help on this would be gratefully received.
Gracias!

The company is based in the CIs and was founded many years ago by Roger (?) Wilson, some were also made in Ireland, very sturdy hulls. Lots of them around, I have a 27 footer, great little boat. Suggest that you have a look at a few, home fit out doesn't necessarily mean poor quality.

Geoff Willson design. Lots were supplied as hulls for bespoke fit out. Hence you will see a considerable variety of internal layouts and engine choices. I have had an Aqua Star 33 aft cockpit for the last seven years and when I was looking I saw a few layouts which didn't suit me. Mine has Cummins B series (6BT) engines which I wanted rather than the (mostly) Volvo alternatives and I have been very pleased with the boat. Happy to supply further and better particulars or at least try to answer questions!

There is a very friendly and active owners' association with close links to the factory in Guernsey.

Many thanks for your help.
Benjenbav - do you have a website address for the owners club please?
Aft cabins are like hen's teeth so will have to make the trek to have a look to see if expectation matches reality.

Don't think I've ever seen an aft cabin 33, do they exist?
I know of a couple of aft cockpit 33's for sale at the mo with keen to sell owners.

they do indeed, quite a few for sale at the mo, some without internal steering position that are a real struggle to sell...

I don't think the AquaStar club has a website. It's very low key. There's a newsletter and every year they organise a rally (plus factory trips). Plus a few discounts and some restrained merchandise: a burgee and a tie. I was going to send you a copy of the latest newsletter but I noticed that it has bank account details (for the merch) so maybe it's best not to put this on an open forum. If you pm me your email address I can send you the club commodore/secretary's address and you can take it from there.

Disclaimer: I might just be one of the keen to sell AQ33 owners mentioned by JSYmartini!

I think you might have a point about a lack of internal steering being a bit less attractive. I've always used my boat through the winter and it's hard to beat a passage through interesting conditions when you're at the helm with a flask of hot tea and the heating turned up to "just right". :D
