Had some issues with my DF2.5 four stroke outboard cooling so stripped down thermostat housing and found salt deposits round the small cylindrical anode which was blocking one of the exits. Used a steam cleaner pencil jet to clear away the debris and made a temp gasket so I could run the engine with the thermostat removed to get a good flow.

Now looking for spares as none of the local Suzuki agents keep any stock. Can anyone suggest an online dealer who keeps spares in stock. I did try Suzuki UK for a recommendation but they were useless.

Thanks.

PS, it's also stalling when put in gear but plenty of info on this site, just adding my name to the list

From personal experience of working with this make and model the carb problem can be more of an issue. What usually happens ( not suggesting you by any means) the engine wont tick over. To get over this the tick over speed is increased and forcing the engine into gear always strips the clutch dog. Mega expensive to replace. Your engine will run better with the thermostat in place and as Richard ssys s home made job will be fine

Well greased thin card as Richard suggests will keep the show on the road while you source a proper part .... To keep until the next time yo have to do the same job

Frost.co.uk sells gasket paper If they have the right thickness £4 will buy you enough to make a couple of hundred

For Suzuki spares my first stop would be Oakley Marine, aka Outboards direct, http://www.outboards-direct.co.uk/

Also try Seamark Nunn at Trimley near Felixstowe, they are agents and have always been good for me for both Suzuki spares and now Honda spares.

I have found it hard to get spares for my Suzuku 2.2. It always seems to be a search on line, not something the local dealer stocks etc etc..... ending with e Bay.
Pacer Marine (on e bay) seem the most frequent people that crop up on my search and who I usually end up getting parts from. They are a proper real world chandlery too. As Vic says, Oakley Marine are helpful and knowleagable too, but probably won't have the parts in stock, but will get them for you. It can all seem a bit slow for a darn' gasket or whatever!

Small Suzuki outboards are jetted lean to pass emissions legislation. In the US Suzuki actually sell a larger jet kit to deal with this issue. I had a DF4 - did my research as it stalled when setting off constantly. Ream out jets very slightly and bingo! But yes, leaving fuel to evaporate in carb will definitely not help.

Spot on Fred, all 4 strokes are governed by the American EPA regulations, but if Mr Trump keeps to his word these will be abolished and we all will have nice running 4 strokes again. Something tells me he has bigger fish to fry at the minute

You may have issues with 3.5 spares, you may find some obsolete. Vic S will be able to give you more info but i think DT4 head is the same

Thanks Steve, that might help; I have also found a US site that has head gaskets for 20 bucks.
One odd thing, there is a copper ring inset into the head where the gasket seals. Not seen this on the diags and looks a bit dubious re corrosion.

I followed Fred's advice and now my outboard works perfectly.
