Where are you now ?

Seems more people thought happy was a mischief maker and preferred that he went.

If I recall correctly it was cos of his antics that mobo forum lost the likes of Byron who's probably forgotten more than most of us will ever know about motorboats. And Boat1 and a few others. Tony, is Byron still about?

As a new contributer to the Forum I am would appreciate some advice as to how the ranking system works. Replies to my posts by some are often prefaced by for example 'Well newbie...' or similar.
When might I be expected to shed the rank of newby and achieve the rank of 'Old Fart'.

Well, I think many here just might agree with me that that is just the sort of question that you should not ask.

The definitive answer is elusive to the n'th degree and may well be impossible to discover. Unfortunately you have now invited all and sundry to try and offer an explanation which can be exceedingly dangerous :D

My two pennyworth....... you are no longer a newbie when you don't feel like one and you are an old fart when you do - how will that do?

I think I can safely say I qualify on both counts :D

He did eventually return and became quite regular on the Thames forum. Unfortunately earlier this year he fell foul of the admins over some minor indiscretion and banned himself - thus far entreaties have failed to overcome his not inconsiderable stand on principle :D

We are , of course, all a lot older now and - as is the case with my Westie - calming down considerably in our dotage :(

I am destined to be a Newbie for ever

Awaits a reply from an 'Old Fart';)

Its just like been at work in that you have to suck up to the Old farts if you want to get on.
(by the way , you might want to rethink the term 'old fart', 'Desk Commodore' I believe is technically more accurate.)

Quote the 'desk commodores' regularly and congratulate them on such a marvellous explanation.

Just pop up every now and then when they post photos of their boats admiring them etc

Never agree with a newbie
never disagree with a 'desk commodore'

You will know when you have made as one of the 'desk commodores' will endorse your post to validate it.

Otherwise you will still be regarded as a newbie and an irritant after 6000 unvalidated and worthless posts.;)

Pete, stop trolling:D you're just a wind up merchant;)

Oh really :p

I wasnt sure if I was allowed on this thread but I note you only joined in 2005 as well, have any of your posts been validated yet ;)

I have a referral, for alleged homophobic post, does that count?:D

A reference from the moderators has to trump an endorsement from a desk commodore , so I guess congratulations are in order, your posts are indeed validated. :)

Interesting point of protocol now , because your accepted as a validated poster does that mean you can validate and endorse other newbies ?
BTW is that your boat pictured in your avatar ?
She's a beauty and so well kept, you must have professional help to keep her shinning like that :)
