Where are you now?

I read loads of posts where someone says, "oh, I was there as well that day" or something along those lines. So I wonder if we should have a thread whereby we list our "live" locations in the event that another forumite wants to say hello or borrow a cup of sugar.

Of course it may be that you want to hide away and not get noticed!

Possibly listing your intended port of call may even result in an impromptu cruise in company.

I'll start the ball rolling:

Brixham marina visitor's pontoon. A somewhat forced stay en route from Teignmouth to Salcombe.

Set off and the sea was horrible. Thought it was just the tide around Teignmouth entrance but sadly not. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Henry :)

I'm sat here, next to the boat in Kingsbridge, bemoaning the fact that this has been the worst "Summer" I've ever had for boating. Have been prevented doing the vast majority of my planned trips for this year.
Today has been fairly typical. Pottered down the estuary solo - sun trying to poke through the low cloud and a bit breezy. Very little activity in the Bag and off Salcombe - no one entering or leaving the "estuary" - can't think why!!
Nice metre high swell over the Bar and not too many white horses further out - think I'll go to Hope Cove and have lunch.
OH NO YOU'RE NOT!! Around Bolt Hd a maelstrom of steep 2-3metre walls of water, some from the S, some from the SW. It may get better I thought, well it did, slightly. After about 2 mls at 7-8kts with the wipers going full chat and with the occasional very hard landing, the coast disappeared in the fog. Visibility was about 250metres so I found a relatively flat bit and headed back towards home. That was when the entertainment started with being on the plane and managing 18-20kts without dropping into any holes.
Unfortunately this lasted just 7-8mins.
Can't see the situation changing for the next 4 or 5 days, other than for the worse. May as well put the boat to bed for the Winter as I've got pheasants to look after from the end of next week, 'til Feb.
Bu**er !!

I noticed the other day when leaving the marina about 30 or 40% of the mobos have those little (phonebook book size) solar panel wotsits fitted, I gather they keep your batteries topped up quite well.

Also noticed that the sail boat mob seem to favour the little windmill gennys and you never see them on mobos :)

I got a solar panel of around 12w from Maplins on special offer in the spring for around £50. It's a good, tough waterproof thing but it's quite large - about a yard long by about eight inches wide. I just prop it up in the cockpit well anytime we leave the boat off shorepower and it keeps the batteries nicely topped up.

I have a friend that shelled out a lot more for a wind genny and says that it does virtually nothing - other than keep him awake at night with its wirring!

It will be of little consolation then when I tell you this has been our best year for boating, and it isn't over yet. August spent heading towards your neck of the woods before coming back for a week in the Solent and the power boat racing. Yes, we did get weathered in at Weymouth but that allowed us to reacquaint ourselves with some friends we met on our last visit so every cloud.....

Glad to hear you've been lucky with the weather. I suppose basing the boat in the Lago Solento would provide more short "cruises".
Think if things aren't better next year the boat will have to go. It deserves a lot more use on long trips than we give it.

Ooooh Errr, Eeek!!
Went out for a play this afternoon - sea state officially Rough. Could only manage 5-6kts into the waves, 16-20 ,with them. Exhilarating.
On the way back noticed no one was on the vis. buoys off town - they were all rafted up on the vis. pontoon. Suspect that off-town would be horribly bumpy on the ebb with all this wind.
Seems even more unlikely that the weather will allow any decent length of trip next week. We'll just have to do some of those little jobs we've delayed until now.

Still sitting at home, waiting for the delivery of the new boat :-)

One month and counting (impatiently)

The coast around Salcombe/Start Point does seem to cop quite a few 'lumps' - I've been looking to do a run down from Torbay, but not plucked up the courage yet! :o Might wait now until next year/bigger boat unless there's a late calm spell.

Hope it brightens up a bit for you before you wrap her up!

Oh, hang on a minute!!

Tomorrow is looking good provided the sea-state has gone down significantly - Met Office says Mod. or Slight.
I'll have to stay another day then and go out on the morning tide to Brixham for lunch, D'mouth for tea and back late p.m. via Salcombe for chip supper.
There is a god!!
