Burnt Isles?View attachment 201121
Those who follow the ‘My view’ thread will have a clue as to where I am at the moment. Those who know the area well will know exactly where I was as this photograph was taken.
That didn’t take long!Burnt Isles?
You came with us to very nearly there - from Falmouth. That didn’t take long!
That’s a blast from the past! You came with us to very nearly there - from Falmouth.
Presumably not too big. There’s 4.6 metres at LAT.There have been some large vessels through that gap, the Waverley and largish Navy Vessels, as well as a few cruise ships.
Is the boat you’re on based in Troon? That’s a blast from the past!

Normally based in Rhu.Is the boat you’re on based in Troon?
Looked a bit tight on the shore side on the exit at the E end !Here is the Waverley passing through the south channel, which is deeper but with bigger turns in more confined waters.
With a lot of boats, that would be just plain bullying, but I reckon the Waverly could reasonably hoist flag D as they let go the shore lines and leave it thereLooked a bit tight on the shore side on the exit at the E end !
And was going to say, but you got there before me, take the buoys in the OP photo and imagine Waverley coming through at 10 knots, with the paddle boxes on each side almost kissing the buoys on both sides.
Been there a few years back when she had a famously “assertive” skipper. We were approaching from the other side and did a sharpish swerve out of the way.
She usually goes at more than 10 knots. Would be surprised if she slowed there, as it is straight.Looked a bit tight on the shore side on the exit at the E end !

Relatively normal, i think. Channel is pretty narrow.I've previously heard the Waverley announce arrival at Burnt Isles in 10mins on VHF, is this normal or was that tge 'Assertive' skipper?
