Where am I - with a twist

Salvamar Achernar - rescue boat

Doh! Should have read the name on the life jackets!:o

OK - most got it early on.

JW has just spent a few weeks out of the water in our boatyard.

I got to chatting with the crew.
There are two crew - one crew on call - the other resting.
Nice bunch of lads - do their own maintenance/servicing.
Whilst speaking to one of the skippers, he invited me round for a look.
So, I asked him if I could bring some friends from SCM.
So, last Wed, about 20 of us turned up and the our harbour mistress came along to help with the translations.
A really interesting morning was had by all.

no, not at all, my boat has the wheel on stbrd!
More, like IS there a wheel at the front question, as from previous pics I couldn't spot a wheel on port or central spot.

Quite! It was perhaps me reading your post as possibly ambiguous in intent.

Lots of warships ships have the helm position on the starboard side (in case you are interested.)

V, I think it's safe to assume that no is the answer.
In the following pic, just look at the top of the raised armrest of stbd seat and you'll see a joystick - no prize for guessing what it's for.
I would think that it's also replicated in the console between the center and stbd seats, just under the Furuno trackball unit (second pic below - btw, God only knows what was thinking whoever decided to install it in that vertical position! :ambivalence:).
This way, both thrust vectoring and throttles can be controlled from both seats, though I suppose that the "main" helmsman is meant to be the chap on stbd.
Re. the wheel, my guess is that it's just an emergency backup of the joysticks, but good luck in handling that thing with no power steering, anyway...

PS: Hurric, did you possibly take a pic of the separate dashboard in front of port seat?
I suppose it's mostly dedicated to engines control, but I'd be curious to see that, too!

No wheel in front of the seats.
AFAIK there are small joysticks in the arm rests for steering etc.
The bigger joystick in the middle is for the searchlight.
