Well here we are on our "Summer Cruise" and we are about 20miles from our home port - and have been "stuck" here for 3 days!!

To be honest I think we are quite lucky our original plan was to leave Portishead and head down to Lundy Island on Sunday, stay their (at anchor) a couple of nights and then on to Milford Haven.

We got as far as Flat Holme and Steep Holme and decided as it was getting a bit choppy we would overnight in Cardiff. Since then its been F5-F6 and there's currently a strong wind warning in force - so we are just enjoying the sights of Cardiff.

For anyone who knows the area we are in the Graving Dock @ Cardiff Bay rather than our usual stop over in Penarth - Good thing is its nice and close to the Cardiff Bay waterfront - but its a bit quite - nobody else on the moorings!!

Anyway - we hope the weather will improve soon - and I am keeping our Blog upto date (link below) if anyone wants to follow our progress!!

Cheers

I'm looking for an answer to that too. My boat is in Poole and I need to get it back to Lymington, only 20 nmls but I drove to the cliff top carpark near Hurst Spit yesterday evening and it looked rougher than I'd like to be out in.

I was considering Thursday when there is an 11 knot wind predicted by windguru website, Friday would be calmer, but I would have to do it solo then. 19 ft laning mobo. Any opinions?

Fridays wind speed is predicted 7 knots for Poole.

Here Here...

Stuck in Brigton waiting for better weather to take me to Ramsgate.

Maybe we should all get sails /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mine is only 24ft planing mobo and if its less than 15 miles and about f5 or below I have always taken it back at displacement speed. Scares the wife shitless at times, but all good fun. The worst has been f5/6 with a following sea, had me concerned entering Chi harbour though.

My house looks over the bristol channel and each morning I have a look out to see the sea state I must admit its been a bit lumpy out there lately.
There was a 25 ft sailing yacht haring down the severn this morning going with the tide He didnt look as though he was getting chucked around too much
Good luck with the rest of your trip
Keith told me theres aqn old saying that says seamen are made on the bristol channell
Thats why we moved to lymington

Hi Jools

Hope the weather improves, still a bit windy today and forecast not good for weekend.

Will catch up with you when you get back.

And we thought it was only us! Our boat is in Swansea Marina awaiting better weather so that we can resume our trip back to our home port of Neyland.

We decided to take a trip from Neyland to Swansea on Saturday, had a great run across, set throttles at 27 knots and didn't touch them till we arrived in Swansea! Stayed in marina overnight and then had lovely day out on Gower on Sunday. Monday plan was to go across to Watchett or back to Tenby and stop off for lunch.... but we woke up Monday am, to find drizzle, thick fog, and high winds!! Hence our boat still moored up in Swansea Marina.... we need to get it the 60 miles or so back to our home port this weekend or otherwise next.... don't think however the weather is going to be any good this weekend.... so we shall be watching your postings/replies very keenly!

Well - we've moved to a new port.....

But only from Cardiff to Penarth - 0.92 miles on the log - but a change of scenary!!

In the next berth are some friends who live on the same pontoon as us in Portishead, they came back from Swansea to Penarth yesturday and said it was not pleasent at all out in the Channel - a bit rougher than they would have liked - and they had the wind behind them!!

Listening to the 21:05 CG weather forcast tonight the stong wind warning has been lifted (It was still in force this morning) and local conditions at The Mumbles (Swansea) were F2

Forcast tomorrow is for F3-F4 so hopefully we will be on our way again

Tico - I'll let you know how we get on - maybe see you in Swansea!!

Cheers Jools - Still onboard Jasper!!
