When to have the injectors checked?

My boat is getting old. I have 2 x MAN 2842 LE 433 1550 HP diesel engines at my boat. They are already 13 years old and at 1600 hours. They are well maintained and never brought up any problems. But I think now comes a period where I need to act a bit pro-active. I know that failure of injectors can cause very costy damages. On the contrary it is not very expensive to take them out, have them checked and serviced and put them back. Do you think that it is the correct time to do it? Additionally, do you recommend any other points that I should act pro-active?

All inputs are appreciated.

I have a Volvo MD2020 & had the injectors changed at between 4500 & 5000 hours & 16 years Also had the tappets done for first time. Volvo exchange injectors are twice the price of those I could have had by going to Colchester Autos but I also had compression test etc done first just in case it was time to renew the lot
If one compares with a car the injectors run for a lot longer, but get used a lot more. It is well known that a big killer of a small marine engine is lack of use
Engine runs lovely. Should be Ok for a while yet. Having the exhaust elbow changed for the third time was a big help though.

I whipped out the six injectors from my Perkins 6.354 for service two weeks ago. The manual recommends service @ 2500 hrs and I was at 2700. I took the injectors to Colchester Fuel Injection. They checked them the same afternoon and reported they were up to spec. We discussed replacing the tips but Colchester thought it not worth the while as they were well within spec. I received the injectors back nicely cleaned and fitted with replacement copper washers top and bottom (which is necessary). A nominal charge of £40 inc for the lot.

£70 each for testing, rebuild with new bosch tips, test again.

mine had been “overhauled” a few hours use before but all had crap patterns and 4 dripped.

Difficult to say if you should pull yours but never a bad idea to at least have them tested.

I read it again! When I had the 2030 injectors tested, Cochester said they were 'hosing'. £40 each for service plus vat. Mind you that was 7/8 years ago.
