When this........

I refuse to quote the whole lot but that's more like it! :D But some pix would be prove the bollox - LOL.

I dunno about that
I think a crackin tale is sometimes better.
Yer know, a bit like listening to the wireless (member them?):)
The pictures in the mind can be better sometimes, plus the 'screen' can be adjusted to suit!
But Yeh, we have to mention hlb, He has mentioned to me (an to us lot on here) how it was in the Formative Years of this Forai.

'It were good back then, now tiss like Garndners question time thee knows':D
Or words to that effect.

However
I must admit
My first 'stumble' into here was a technical question
The response was absolutely amazing
Prob sorted by lots of help
So when a boaty question turns up that I think I can help with I respond.

But Yeh, I know where you are coming from Soli
More 'Tales of the River Bank' would be nice

I think the North Wales Crowd tend to try!:)
Someone said' It's becoming a North Wales Forum' not so long ago!

To qote a Famous bloke
'You can please some of the people ----etc etc!'

Anyway Soli
How about a full report (No Pictures please);)
Ref your 'journey through the air ref the Taxi T88sser'

Sorry coudn't resist
Title for you
'Col Regs out of Tescos'!

OOPS sorry
'Gardeners Question Time' agin:D

IMHO the forum is now less interesting/amusing due to over/poor moderation, I have actually cringed at some of the things that have been pulled or locked, hence people including myself come to look less often & when we do we put in less effort ourselves. We got a new boat this year but couldn't even be bothered to learn how to post pics as it just doesn't seem worth the effort. It is still a good fountain of knowledge which I and others use hence the type of subjects being posted. It is however no longer a laugh & so has become less addictive,I used to try & stop myself looking but nowadays I only have a peep if I am totally bored. Well that's my take anyway.

just developed the film in the digital camera, from Thursday's careening. By special request of Solitaire.

The angle of lean is due to the strong wind pushing waves up into the sand, and making it go soggy. Normally the sand remains solid. Note that the heel of the keel has sunk down quite a bit, exacerbating the natural angle of the beach slope - another lesson learned.

Please note the Forum burgee :).

I think the photographer was too busy praying, to take pics of the session manhandling the boat between the upstream and downstream buoys while the wind was gusting to 55mph. Fun, but it sure makes you concentrate. :0

Oh very droll Rich - :D I went out on the good ship Motala today. Took my crew as I can't leap about the decks at mo (my excuse!) Saw the cruise ships leaving. I thought it might be interesting to show the AIS info as well.

forum first started we had all sorts of postings of boating daring do; exploding toilets, getting caught out in bad weather, the odd grounding.

Now what do we get? Oil analysis,Doral gone bankrupt,Trucking costs,Hello and help please,Heavy vibration,Help Princess........... all in chronological order.

Does nobody actually go boating anymore on this forum?

Oh sorry HLB, I know you do! :D

Well, I was hoping to have gone out today but it was too windy for us. I know I am being cautious, but on my first season I feel it is better to err on the side of caution. I am hoping for less wind tomorrow.

Just remember that it's supposed to be fun. Never feel guilty for staying in harbour in bad weather. But do remember that harbours rot ships & men, so the longer you stay, the harder it gets to leave.

I like to "pop outside for a look" Once out, it often isn't as bad as it looks & you feel obliged to give it a go. If push comes to shove, coming back in isn't hard.

Searush, agreed but the return to our berth is the most stressful part ;-) That said my son did it perfectly last weekend just to show up my incompetence. All those years playing computer games must have helped ;)

oi - I've already posted about what I hit yesterday and what I hit today! (see berthing woes)

I empathize.

The wind on Friday PM was much worse than today, the Bramble Bank wind report showed it was gusting to 30 knots and the picture of Portsmouth harbor entrance in this 'rag' from yesterday (3rd picture down) would have caused me to 'turn tail' and head back to port http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1295324/Millions-set-sizzle-wild-windy-weather-gives-way-34C-heatwave.html

Yep, I used to tell loads of tales. Dareing do's and stuff. Thing is. I long lost the need for my plank, I still have loads of 30mm rope, but hardly any chance to use it.

Thing was, when I ran out of stories. I thort other folk would tell there's. But it hardly ever happened.. Your mostly now shepardized into marinas now. But most boats dont go anywhere much, so theres not much to tell.

I'm glad of the stories there are, but they never seem to sink, or do anything really interesting.

Whats wrong with Solent to Tobermory as a cruising ground.

Sounds like you need a virtual boat fix David!

will try and put something up later from a few weekends ago with some videos and pics and things. the weekend that we fell in love with our boat!!

take it that wasnt you going up the river yesterday afternoon with a rib full of people training?

LOL, I can only boat for fun at the moment. My knee injury does not allow me to instruct.

No was not me on the rib yesterday, was one of our instructors - Steve - doing a PB2

Well, we had the boat out on charter for four days for a YM prep and exam the other week. No idea where they went, but probably not far as the logged miles were lowish, but in proper Old Skool YBW Forum stylee...

Despite a brand new sign in the heads that read, "Please do not put anything into this toilet unless you have eaten it first!" someone managed to find a pack of wet-wipe style make-up removers in the cupboard above the sink and decided they would make good bumwad.

We rocked up with No 1 Son and a mate of his on the Friday night about 10pm and the lad proceeded to show his mate how the leccy bog worked. "You just press this big red button and... ...dad, why's it making that strange noise?"

"Ah, I'm guessing after having four or five people on board for a week, the flush tank's empty. Let me check..." Presses 'fill' button and the bowl duly fills up. Presses 'empty' button and with a a mighty Whooosh! the contents of the bowl become airborne.

Now, the great Albert Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, but what would he know? Several attempts definitively proved that the macerator now seemed to be confused about which direction God intended it to pump. Closer inspection revealed something protruding from the orifice at the bottom of the bowl. Something that seemed to thrash round and round and throw water everywhere when you press the button.

No problem, we have a tool for that. Out to the cockpit and back with the nasty dive knife that's normally in a sheath next to the bilge pumps on the transom. While this knife has successfully dealt with recalcitrant Dreadnoughts in the past, the white obstruction was proving awkward to extract. A small piece eventually came away, sufficient to identify the offending material as a facewipe. Unfortunately, it also revealed an unpleasantly brown speckled mess of similar facewipes protruding from the hole in the bottom of the pan.

So, it's 10.30 on a Friday night. Anyone with half a brain is in a pub/club/restaurant. Not me. I'm now up to my elbow in the bog (having removed the macerator's fuse first) trying to pull the offending 'material' out of the hole. Several small 'parcels' come out and have to be temporarily deposited in the sink, but it became clear that the macerator was terminally clogged and was going to have to come off.

That's an easy enough job, just a plastic cover and four screws, but of course removing it allows the contents of the macerator and bowl to escape all over the floor of the heads. So having first removed the teak floor grating, that's exactly what happened next.

And here's the results:

Oh, the joy! Anyway, once dismantled, it was easy enough to clear, leaving only the reassembly, cleanup and removal of the evidence to the marina skip, before settling down for a well earned beer. Oh, and I did wash my hands first...

Happy now, Solitaire? A proper boaty story...
