Originally a ship was a three masted square rigged sailing ship, thus two masted vessels were brigs, snows and brigantines etc.

More recently a ship has been defined as one that carries its own boats. Thus all submarines, which do not carry boats, are referred to by their crews as boats. And that includes the big ones that carry missiles.

I don't know if carrying an inflatable on davits at your stern counts

Yacht comes from the Dutch (and German) "jagen" meaning to hunt or to chase. Therefore a swift vessel. For the French a Yacht is exclusively a mobo gin palace.
