When do you give way

Give racers room

Depends where they are racing .. if there is a fleet racing in constricted waters such as Soton Water I'd never get to the pub for lunch if I gave way to every boy racer. Reckon if they wish courtesy extended to them, they shoul extend courtesy to others by careful considerationof where and when they set courses. And yes as a normal coutesy I go out my way normally not to interfere in someone's sport .. cuts both ways though!

How sad some of this is......

Where did the courtesy go?...

As a cruiser and (occasional) racer, I will always try to interpret my rights and responsibilities with an additional eye towards being considerate as well as 'correct'... that doesn't mean I always hold station as a racer... I would for example, as a racer usually tack/change course to avoid placing a cruiser with a kite up in a difficult position, even if I was stand on, but equally, I would try hard to avoid palcing a racing boat in my lee when cruising

The fact that some racers and some cruisers are rude towards fellow water users, is not in my opinion a basis for being inconsiderate yourself.....at least thats the kind of lesson I would like my children to learn....

By all means follow the rules to the letter, but then don't complain when the racing/crusing [delete as appropriate] fraternity describe you in ungracious terms...

Its a harsh world out there... lets try hard to be friends and not contribute to making it worse eh?......
