When do the prices go up in Italian marinas

We're planning a trip along the west coast of Italy in June this year, from the French border probably as far as Rome or Napoli. I've heard the visitor costs are extortionate in peak season (like 2-300 euro a night!), so does anyone know when they change to peak prices? We have a bit of flexibility on timing, so may go in late May if the marinas are half the price. Also, when do they drop again, as we may go late season instead if building plans get in the way.

I don't know, will ask, but I know the peak prices are charged in September. I remember paying e200/night in La Spezia (which is not very nice btw) in September a couple of years ago. I'd fully expect June is charged at peak rates, not least because the superyacht circuit starts off then in Capri. I dont know what rates apply in May

The cheap one is, strangely, portofino. It's a lousy marina technically, as swell comes in badly, but a beautiful place to be in. I think it was about 120/night. Of course the cost saving can easily be blown in the shops:-) The other beautiful place to go is Porto Venere, near La Spezia, then Portoferraio in Elba (also e200/night plus 100 agent fee, in August this year)

There aren't zilllions of anchorages as it's an exposed coast with long stretches of cliffs. Sestri Levante is a good place to plan for anchorage overnight though , to save yourself e200!

Also, I'll talk to you offline about detax fuel. I learnt how to do it this year.

I got loads of pictures. Don't want to hijack your thread but can post them if you want

Don't know what it's like on the Italian mainland but in Sardinia, July and August are definitely the most expensive months by far in terms of daily rates with Oct-April being the cheapest. An 18m berth from 11 Jul to 31 Aug costs €240/day in my marina and €11/day (yes, eleven euros!) in Oct-April

Yes, please post them. Obviously I could see the pics in Antibes, but i'm sure i'm not the only one who would be interested. If you're going to the effort of posting them, then probly worth a new thread, as many wont bother looking at this one, as it's just a request for info.

In North Sardinia the prices go up on 1st July and drop again on 1st September, suspect that is in line with rest of Italy. May and October are generally cheaper than June and September.

Coem to think of it, I remember looking at the website for Deleted User's new marina and there is a price list download which shows the exact price by month/week, so that'll give you an idea of when they jack up the prices. I've forgotten name of marina so cant google it, but Deleted User will advise

thx Mike, do you know what the rate is for May/June and September? We may well come back via Sardinia/Corsica.

Nick, 2009 tariff for Porto Rotondo is here http://www.marinadiportorotondo.it/?modulo=contenuti&id=9. Prices in Rotondo seem to be typical for the Costa Smeralda except for Porto Cervo http://www.marinadiportocervo.com/index.php?cmd=home#ancora which is an arm and a leg job. As far as I can make out the further south and west you go in Sardinia, the cheaper the marinas are but Mapism of this parish is the font of all wisdom on Sardinia if you want more detailed info

I travelled a few times in Rome area, but always in peak Summer. July and August.
My most expensive for a ten metres place was in San Felice Circeo at 75 EUROS a night water/electric included. I am sure Capri will be double to that, but when I tryed it was always full. My trips where always delivery so I usually stay for a night and hop on the next place.

Here is some prices:
Capri - http://www.italianavigando.it/porti/pdf/listinocapri.pdf
OSTIA Rome - http://www.portoturisticodiroma.net/PostiOrmeggio/Transito/tabid/58/Default.aspx
CIRCEO - http://www.circeoprimo.it/circeoprimo-tariffe.html
CALA GALERA - http://www.marinacalagalera.com/italiano/indexita.htm

If you are targeting any harbours I check what I have in my favorite links for you.

if its typical for the area we're going then June seems OK, particularly earlier in the month.
It is pretty typical, but actually there is neither a rule nor a common practice about when "high season" starts or finishes.
An example which pops to my mind, though not on your planned route, is Leuca marina (heel of Italy's boot) whose high season prices start already in May.
Anyway, generally speaking June is a fantastic month for cruising Italy: weather is already nice, and marinas, restaurants and nice anchoring spots are not overcrowded.
Go for it, and don't forget to report back!
