When did you last touch bottom?

In July, after sailing from Ramsgate to Brightlingsea in a bit of a blow. Did everything right untill I mistook the blue racing bouy for Colne no 13! Thank God for east coast mud - good thing the boss was watching the depth guage! My first time into Brtightlingsea - that's my excuse & I'm sticking to it (unlike the mud fortunately) /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

In May, from Pyefleet through the spitway at LW. Followed the police boat and hit hard near Swallowtail. A mobo tried to give me a tow off but couldn't get near. I got the anchor over but couldn't put the kettle on and look like I meant to do it because she was banging on the bottom to hard.

She floated off after 20 minutes. I'm glad I was single handed, SWMBO would have been fuming!

March this year, trying to turn a horrible Russian tub around off Mistley, River Stour in the dense fog. She is 115m long, and the channel isn't! I managed to get back alongside, and three other guys tried through three tides before she made it. Since then we always turn off Ballast Hill, so please don't anchor in the middle of the channel, as one yacht did one night.

Last Sunday at Melton when we motored up the Deben all the way to the Granary Yacht Harbour - but it was two hours before HW and we were off within 10 minutes. Picked up a mooring at Woodbridge for lunch then motered back though Loders Cut and the short cut past Waldringfield - plenty of water even though my friend insisted I steered! A great day out.
