Could anyone tell me when the shape of the Yamaha 8/9.9 outboard changed from the squarer shape to the current rounded shape please?

I bought a new 9.9 in 1998 and it was the rounded shape and painted grey as opposed to the squarish, white engine that it replaced.

1996 for the 9.9 ITYWF. Then again for the fourstrokes ?
Not until the 4 strokes for the 8hp ???????
Find a parts list and check !

Did the rounded shape succeed the white? I thought it's predecessor was the squarer grey shape.

When I said the rounded grey replaced the squarish white I meant on my boat as opposed to the way the range of engines evolved.
The engines I'm talking about are the four strokes and you may well be right about a squarish grey engine in the range.
