Judging by the time, I had probably made friends with the juice of the grape and appologise unreservedly.

Lakesailor, would you tell us how would you describe the difference in performance (speed, pointing, heeling, etc.) of your new sail compared to the old?

I only sailed that boat with that main twice. (I was ashamed to be seen out in it).
The new sail was a much more mangeable thing. Picking up drive after a tack was easier and it obviously didn't flap about. I couldn't say about heeling as it wasn't a very windy period when I sailed it.
However when I went to see the boat to buy it (on Coniston) it was impressed by the sailing ability. Even with that old bed sheet on.
I wouldn't say the actual performance improved as much as the appearance!

Clear difference for sure but surely to God you didn't sail her with such little main halyard tension did you?

Damn you beat me to it...... That is whats called " a self or SWMBO deluding ruse"....as in "Cor don't it look awful, better get a new one"

Whereas had you whacked the halyard onto a winch and given it some grief...well it would still look knackered..just less so. The droop in the boom is also just a bit too Freudian to be ignored...
