Wheel pilot on a Bavaria 36..... Help,!!!!!!

I am surprised that a standard wheel pedestal is so wide that the motor doesn't clear it. I fitted a similar Raymarine wheel pilot to a motor-sailor bulkhead. Here is a photo during installation showing the kit before replacing the wheel :

And here with the unit mounted :

Thanks (again)Bav34,
The fogs lifting!!
I've spoken to the RM dealer and he's ordering the kit that you found, hopefully won't be too long!
Many thanks for your efforts.
Will keep you updated with progress as and when>
Thanks.

I have successfully fitted the wheel drive unit in a Bavaria 32.
Had little choice as I rekoned there was not space for a ram system, and the chain + motor system was going to be a hastle.
I did cut the hole in the fibre glass and used the bulkhead fitting with a tappered piece of hardwood underneath to make the surface vertical and in the same plane as the wheel.
Works well despite having to put your fingers through the spokes to uperate the lever.
PM me if you want to discuss further.

There is space for a quadrant mounted system but you have to glass in a substantial platform for the fixed end of the ram. The Lewmar motor that drives through the chain is probably the best solution - fitted as standard to some of the larger, later Bavs, but there is not enough room under the pedestal to fit it because of the longitudinal bulkhead down the centre of the boat.

I fitted st4000+ to our Bav 34 10 Years ago only problem we found apart from cutting the hole for the motor is that you must fit a rudder reference unit if you do not, it will not keep a very straight course in a bit of a swell, as we found out the hard way.
