I wish to replace the steering column on Westerly Conway. The existing one has been glassed onto the cockpit sole. At the other end the stainless screws securing the compass to the pedestal have suffered from severe electrolysis and all attempts to remove them have failed. Consequently I am unable to inspect the steering gear inside the pedestal.
As the boat is a 1978 model I thought I might take the the opportunity to replace it. Would a Vetus one made of anodised aluminium be a suitable repacement?
