What\'s your most useful sailing discovery this season?

Wish I'd posted this last season when I could have written in detail about my No3 jib and inner forestay, but there you go.

Nappies. I've just run out and will be replenishing soonest. Don't go to sea without them.

This years tide tables - they seem far more accurate than the 2003 ones I was trying to use.

Re: What\'s your most useful sailing discovery this season?

I discovered a fiver in my back pocket whilst sailing by. That was a seriously good sailing discovery.

Sailing By- wouldn't miss it. And you're quite right, that is my fiver

That jet skiers can come on the forums (on PBO here) and be be more tolerant, reasonable and gracious than the people that criticise them

Good on them!

That my inflatable seat for the tender makes a great seat in the cockpit too.

Spent the last 3 years sitting on tool boxes and cushions to see over the saloon, now I have an air suspension model. Just worry now that it might blow overboard.

Amazing how you have internet access. I've just been in IM with you and you're supposed to be heading for train. Amused you wouldn't talk long

That I'd set the tack of my new genoa too high and didn't realise- it dawned on me after a while that i couldn't get the luff tension I wanted because the top of the furler was as high as it would go. I lowered it and low and behold, a perfect setting genoa!! Almost as stupid as spending time looking in the engine compartment before noticing the stop lever is still up /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'm confused about your post Brendan. ? IM

Hi all

That jet skis cause more problems to raggies and mobos than i realised. Thanks to all who have offered constructive advice. :-)

Discovered that how ever slow it is , use the windlass (manual)! I did'nt, being impatient I just hauled on the 30 mters of 3/4 chain and 15kg CQR, following day I'm on my back unable to walk with the pain, took three days before I could get about.

Re: What\'s your most useful sailing discovery this season?

Surprised you bother with an anchor if you have 3/4 inch chain!!

Re: What\'s your most useful sailing discovery this season?

I tie a short, light cord to my foam pads with a small loop on the end that I can slip over a cleat or winch. The pad is easily moved to the windward side of the cockpit and doesn't disappear in the breeze when I stand up.

Re: What\'s your most useful sailing discovery this season?

The only thing I have to tie to on the seat is the valve assembly. I saw recently someone using an Avon seat as a fender and that had a hoop welded to each end which would be handy.

The only problem with tying it down, when we go about I tend to move it out of the way, we have a deep cockpit so I will have to continue just being careful and being a cat it is easy enough to pop it into the saloon when needed to get it out of the way.
