Whats your boat name and what does it mean to you

"Hollywood", a play on a frequently used, by her indoors, expression. We have a dog, Holly, that gets spoiled rotten and gets everything she wants. Wifey has sort of worked out that if she can convince me that Holly wants something then we get it. So this started off with small insignificant dog stuff but quickly moved up to "Holly would like a bigger house and garden", so we moved. It has even gone to "Holly would like some drop diamond earings" near Birthday time -Gail's birthday not Holly's ! Sometime last year we fell in love with a boat and we both agreed "Holly would like a bigger boat ", and so it was. The boat had never actually been officially named so thinking through everything we came up with Hollywood, nice name, easy on the vhf, we know where it comes from and will always act as a reminder of our lovely dog even when she's not with us any more.

'HOUSTON'

First name I've transferred to a second boat. Bit of Fun and works well on the Vhf thanks to Tom Hanks in Apollo 13 - "Houston... We have a problem" Has also come back as "Apollo13, This is Houston... Do you have a problem?"

I think I might call the tender 'Shuttle' ;)

Kept the name "imagine" when we purchased first boat so decided to change this time, good lady is Julia so we settled on "Julissa", well it was her inheritance we used to purchase the new boat so it seemed only fair :)
 
Amanzi - The wife wanted a name from my South African roots.

Amanzi is Zulu for water, but if you understand anything about deserts / arid land you'd understand the deeper significance. Think Oasis and spiritual and the meaning becomes clear.
 
My wife's brother was in his early 40's but had learning disabilities so was still a child at heart. Like many people of that ilk he was a really happy soul and relished new challenges.

He idolised his sister (my wife) and he was the apple of her eye, he could not pronounce her name so called her 'Kiki'.

Sadly he died just before we bought our first boat so it seemed fitting to name our boat Kiki in memory of him.

Rest in peace little man.

Temeraire

On a Corvette 32, name came with the boat.

As in HMS Temeraire from the Battle of Trafalgar, and remembered as 'The Fighting Temeraire'
 
"Grumpy Uncle"......my uncle passed away and left a bit of money to my fathers (his brother) estate, which then came to me and my brother. My uncle was a miserable old sod, never liked us as kids, never joined in at family do's ect...just a grumpy old bugger!....my sister said we couldn't....so we did!
 
'Any Excuse'

Whenever I popped down to the boat my wife would say "where are you going" to which I would reply " just popping down to the boat" to which she would reply "any excuse," .......it stuck
 
Our current boat name, Sumianda, and which has been the name of several of our previous boats was suggested by my mother in law and therefore I am obliged to continue with it for ever or at least until she's too ga-ga to care;)
