Whats your boat name and what does it mean to you

Rafiki. It came out of some very enjoyable safari holidays in Kenya, where we learned a bit of Swahili. Means friend or friendly, but that is beside the point, we just like the word, and easy to communicate on the VHF, which was another consideration.

White Angel
The name came with the boat .
White Angel is the title of an old film about Florence Nightingale. My wife is a nurse so it seemed a good match.
.

Silver
We bought our second boat on our Silver wedding anniversary. We are just in the process of renaming our new boat the same, although we did briefly flirt with Silver Too, Silver II etc.

IXORA, the Latin name for the Santan Flower.

My wife's parents spent many years working in the phillapines and lived on Santan Street. When they returned to the UK they named thier house Santan.

Alison mum passed 10 years ago and then her dad sadly died last July. Our new boat came about because of inheritance so we thought we should remember dad by naming our boat after something that was meaningful to us as a way of remembering him.

Lulla-Belle

The little girl I never had so she gets spoilt more often than not.

We have a Rib Called Baby-Belle and our Tender is called Mini Baby-Belle!

:encouragement:

Liberty. Although when we purchased her she was 'Infinity', she had been 'Liberty' for many years and that is what we knew her as so that is what we reverted back to. It has no special meaning, its her name so that is what she is called!!!!

Tender is called Liberty Belle.

"MV Flemingo"

The boat was designed and built by Brisbane shipwright Fred Fleming, and all his spec boats were named with bad puns on his name.

I'm not into radio unfriendly puns, but the boat has a known provenance, so I'm living with it.

Play d'eau.

The origin of the name came from when we had a Cougar Predtaor 35. Long, narrow, low in the water (a great profile) and very fast. We'd called her L'eau Profile.

Later, when we bought the Fleming 55, we (wife and four sons) were brainstorming a new name. We wanted to keep the same play on the French word for water (eau). Toby, our youngest suddenly said, 'It's Dad's new toy. It must be Play d'eau! (After the child's plasticine toy called Play-doh....)

"Pip of Poole "was on our Sunseeker .Kids chose it .At the time the ad strapline was from "37ft to 37 M". Ours was the smaller in the hope someday it would germinate and grow into somthing bigger in the SS line up ,it didn,t .

Fiammetta 2 came with the the ITAMA -we are keeping it rather like it ,suits the boat - means
,fiery ,racy woman with attitude

My last boat was "One Away" a Sunseeker Portofino, at the time of purchase I was looking for a SS Martinique the next size up, so she became, One Away.....from the one I wanted.

current boat is "Sea Tryst" she's registered as such, purchased with name and port of registry Part 1, so too much bother to change the name and port.

Current boat is called 'Libre' meaning free or at liberty.....bought her on retirement from my previous fairly demanding career and seemed appropriate.

There was also another twist.....last boat was called 'Breezer' primarily because it was a sports cruiser so a play on wind (in the hair) but coincidentally the girls favourite tipple at that time were Bacardi Breezers. Having moved on to Bacardi and Coke 'Libre' seemed to fit as in 'Cuba Libre'....so the plan was to calls the tender 'Cuba' :)

"Midnight Star" cause we liked it on a boat we bought and have kept it for other boats since. Just a 'nice' name we thought although has no special meanings and the only claim to fame is an America band in the 80's!

Our's is 'Aida', named after our daughter. She in turn got her name from a memorable incident involving opera singer Jaakko Ryhänen, whose boat berth we took by mistake. He was very nice about it and after a chatting with him for a while he invited us to the dress rehearsal of Aida which was taking place that evening. He came to greet us just before the start of the rehearsal and made us feel very welcome. My wife was expecting our daughter at the time so this gave us the idea for the name.
