Isn't this the southern hemisphere version? Well, let's face it the water goes down the plughole a different way, the sun is in the north......

Could be for the US market, where I believe they use the light the other way around. Green=port Red= starboard.

This has in fact become very common on modern boats, especially motorboats. I saw quite a few this summer where the side lights could be seen almost from directly aft.
Also they like to place the lights so near the windows that the light reflects on the inside of the window on the opposite side of the cabin, resulting in both a green and red light being visible from directly abeam.
