Its hidden in the loo locker installed in the pipe supplying water to the window washer.
The little lever has two positions.
A. When you operate the switch placarded as the washers it sends a useful amount of water to help clean the windscreen, other than that it merely allows a constant dribble of water to exit the nozzle and leave a trail of green mould down the teak covered side deck until it reaches the deck drain.
B. Erupts a fountain of water from the nozzle regardless of the washer switch being operated pressurized by the water pump and will empty the fresh water tanks in very short order indeed.
Going to assume its faulty ?mysterious object..jpg

Solenoid valve - the handle is to hold it in the open position, irrelevant in your application. Depending on type it probably just needs a new washer or O-rings, or perhaps just a descale /clean - the solenoid part obviously still works.

Interesting way to do it, a washer pump in a dedicated reservoir would have been more obvious perhaps.

Pretty normal to use the boat's pressurised water supply, via a solenoid valve, to clean the windscreen.

Your solenoid valve isn't closing/seating properly, hence the dribble of water. Take apart and clean, or just buy a new one. They are a pretty generic cheap easily replaceable item. As KevinV says, you don't need the lever type - just a simple one that is opened/closed by the solenoid would be fine.

Example here from Amazon uk (this is 12v; you might need 24v - I don't know)

Thanks both. 12V.

Will try a clean first .
Only spotted the valve when finally getting round to summoning up the nerve to tidy the locker under the under the sink .
Will of course miss the damp green streak down the entire length of the starboard side deck.
Now on the the next mildly vexatious thing on my to do list.

Just ordered new one, old unit refused to come apart.

Don’t forget to seal where wires enter socket to stop corrosion .

New unit arrived via Amazon within 24 hours, attempting to fit today hopefully without breaking or damaging anything else ....
Easy fit.
The replacement unit draws considerably more amps than the old unit, dash lights all go off  , going to pick up some power elsewhere, but boy does it supply a decent jet of water now and no more dribbling on the teak.
:)
