What\'s this light mean?

Hi all, on the control panel under the helm I've got a series of lights. There's a symbol for Oil, Temperature and one with what looks like a power symbol. It's a zig zag arrow. It keeps lighting up green intermittently. Anyone know what this one is for? It's a beta marine diesel engine.

check the Beta website - all the manuals are there for your engine showing the various types of instrument panel they supply and what the lights do.

Hi

It should be lit all the time that the ignition is switched on. It simply shows that there is power to the panel. If yours only lights intermittently, then you have a problem. It may simply be the supply to the green light, or it may be the whole panel - any other clues? temp gauge etc.

When the panel isn't getting any power, then the alternator may not be producing charge.

There is a separate light for charging o not a problem there.

Sounds like the feed for the Ignition Light is iffy or supply to the board could be intermittent.

Hmmf, there's also a rev counter on the panel, which is working. So I'm assuming therefore that the panel as a whole is getting power, but maybe simply the "power" LED is suffering from a dodgy connection? Will have a gander tomorrow!

The zig-zag arrow is an indicator light showing there is power to the panel - it is not a warning light, only an indicator light. It should show green when the "ignition" is on. If it is intermittent you probably have a loose connection somewhere. It is nothing to do with charging, oil pressure or water temp. Assuming the rest of the panel is working correctly (Tacho?) the problem would appear to be in the wiring to the indicator lamp itself rather than a power feed problem to the panel in general.
