We have a Beneteau Antares 9 Series and there's a switch on the control panel which we cannot work out what it does.

It's the third switch down from the top left and is marked 'Navigation'

It doesn't seem to have any affect on the navigation lights or the navigation instruments. Any fellow owners worked it out? Local Beneteau dealer couldn't tell me!

Have you got any nav equipment fitted at all? If so, how are they powered? It could be a pre-wired switch for such equipment that hasn't (for whatever reason) been used...if you haven't got any nav equipment, chances are that you have a ready made switch available! Take the panel out & see if there is anything attached to the output side of it!

Good point, there are wires connected and the warning light illuminates when the switch is in the on position. Heck of a job to trace the wires though.

There are wires attached as per previous message, plotters are wired through switch called 'central navigation'

It looks a bit like M Farters switch board Phil,not as big or as posh of course!!

The idea is, you put all things navigational to that switch, all things like interior lights to another and so on. The switch is also a contact breaker, so if some thing goes bang, that lot packs in, but not other stuff.

So whilst the fag lighter still works and your OK. You just dont know where your going.

...and if it's blowing more than a F4, make sure that "Confort" switch is set to on to soften the wave impacts. I have a similar switch in the car: the difference is quite noticeable.
 
As it is a French boat perhaps you should pay more attention to the French word 'Centrale' rather than the English word 'Navigation' which may be a mis-translation.

I'm not an expert on French boats, but I think 'centrale' may be short for 'centrale de vidange' i.e. bilge pump.

'Centrale Navigation' switches the plotters on. Bilge pump as its own switch caled 'Bilge Pump' It's the switch just called 'Navigation' I have a problem with.
