Whats the stupidest item..?

Definitely the liferaft /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Oh, and maybe the oars! I'd never be able to row it back to port if the boat broke down, so they seem somewhat redundant /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Obviously different if you have a rag and stick to hand, but you'd never be able to row a sizeable yacht back either!

Seafix RDF but i suppose it could get the shipping forecast on long wave

I don't suppose many modern boaters have ever heard of one! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Spent hundreds of pounds on a meaty power inverter. In 9 odd years, used it about...der.. 4 times. Total waste.

Me misses says the pump action vacume flask. Thought it would be a great boon for night watches. Well its there with tits on a bull Useless.

Pressure cooker. Absolute naff....I know that will be controversial from previous\ threads, but...yeah OK, still useless.

Wind scoop. The books will say 'essential'. We have done some well hot, rigged it once. Chocolate fireguard.

I was given a G string posing pouch in the shape of a horses head that made a horsey noise whem the end was squeezed. Now I thought it was great, but not so well received by my wife and anyone else I have ever met when I insisted on the demo.

I actually still have a Seafix RDF - do they have any residual use? I mean, if the Plotter went down, and the spare GPS, and the magnetic compasses and the chart, almanac, and sextant... and leadline, can I still use it to navigate or is Radio 4 now non-navigational?

As for wind scoops, depends how they are made. Mine was fine, but that's me. I was also given a scarlet PVC posing pouch, but Xmas is only once a year and I generally keep my nuts in my granny's glass bowl.

[/ QUOTE ] They will still pick up all the aero beacons but you have to be aware of the refraction of the signals as they cross the coast line. ALD was always useful for getting into Braye in bad vis. presuably still would be

Probably the vacuum cleaner I bought last month.

12 volt re-chargeable, by any chance ? How do I know? SWMBO proudly brought one home that she had bought at a discount store "Just what we need for the boat" she says. The thing was utterly useless; could do better sucking through a straw.

Only been stung once and that was when I failed to read the item description properly and bought a really old, paper print navtex type thing. Totally useless without the PSU. My fault entirely.

Horseshoe shaped lifebelt things. Mandatory to have I know, but in the whole history of sailing has anyone's life actually been saved by one?
