COSTAS KARELIAS

VP of largest Greek cigarette firm found dead next to yacht

Costas Karelias, the vice president of the Karelia Tobacco Company, Greece's largest cigarette manufacturer, was yesterday found drowned next to his yacht, which was moored at a marina in the Peloponnesian port of Kalamata. Police said employees at the marina discovered the 65-year-old's body in the early hours. Officers were awaiting the results of an autopsy and forensic tests on Karelias's boat and car, which was parked next to the marina, before commenting on the cause of death

Good morning 1bobt:

I think your reference to this man's employment in connection to his death is out of order. If this is to become the norm, I look forward to your comments on the death of Tony Bliar, George Bush and weapon designers in the defense industry.

Cheers

Hang on Fellas!!!!! I only posted the original in order to find out if there had been some accident or incident which took place at the marina..knowing that some forumites were possibly wintering there,in Kalamata, and might have first hand knowledge which might be of some interest to the sailing community. Please do not start slagging each other off. There is nothing to be gained by this.

It's interesting though, if the words "cigarette" & "tobacco" were taken out of the original post how differently it would have been read...

Tony Bliar, George Bush should be Tried before a Den Hague Jury :p

Pull your horns back in This man has made millions on the deaths of smokers,
He will have put a half dozen rolexs watches in some church and belived that a god will have saved him. Hard luck he got it wrong.

cheers bobt

Robert, I do not think that you knew this man. If he made a lot of money from tobacco...good for him. People have the choice to smoke or not. If he gave gifts(Rolex's) to the church GOOD.
Who are you with your bovine attitude to judge.
Leave well alone

Peter

Apparently the police found blood stains on the edge of the dock and as the elderly man liked to spent evenings on his boat seems like he slipped or lost his footing and hit his head.
That all comes from an article i read yesterday and they still wait on the autopsy report for cause of death.A pity though as after so many cigarettes he died accidentally.I think that the non smokers should relax a little about the anti smoking campaigns.Happy holidays everybody.

Out of curiosity, are any of you at ANCHOR over winter and if so where?

I would then like info about the area re shops,is it good in all weather etc. (We may anchor next winter, perhaps)

Thanks Pleias,at last some sanity returns to this thread. I did have a look at the newspapers to try & find out any more details but obviously did not see anything.
The reason I brought the subject up was that it might have been of some interest to anyone in or around Kalamata...not to start a rammy, but my judgement must have been affected by the Xmas spirit.
Best wishes..& enjoy the holidays.
