What's the story at Burnham

Some of those must have been for the earlier bidding. I thought that if a sale did not go through, e.bay went back to the previous bidder, is that not so?

Seems he's chosen not to do that as it's up to the seller to approach the number two bidder. it sold for £25k on 10th December, £19k on the 21st and is now at £9k on the third attempt.

I wish them third time lucky

Why wouldn't they be real buyers? most of us here have bought and sold on e.bay

Of course they are not real buyers David. If they were real buyers, why did one of them not complete the purchase ? If the first buyer in the first auction backed out, what about the under bidder ? What about the 3rd bidder, or the fourth ? What about all of the bidders in the second auction ?

Because either he was a dreamer, or he found out something the vendor was telling us, was not true. For example the vendor said that there was someone who could right her for £7,500, he also said it could be moored further up the river for nothing for the first year, perhaps these things were not true.

Like i said, what about all the other bidders ?

Why do you think the seller has made it a private auction, so you can't see who'd bidding ?

No offense David, but you are being very naive here.

The new advert says"You are bidding to BUY, not to come and look and then realise how big it is. Dreamer sounds about right.

There is a lovely houseboat for sale in Burnham right now for 450k.

A very different kettle of fish though.

She's in excellent condition, is beautifully fitted out, and has a secure (ie renewable) mooring

And if the ebay boat can be salvaged, moved, repaired and sorted out for anywhere near 50k .......I'll eat my hat.

I'm not particularly risk averse, but she's way off my limit.

I hope I'm wrong.

Edit: Changing tack

Your final comment was thought provoking!

I quite like seeing old hulks: I find them moving, rather than sad.

Everyday, I run miles and miles along the seawall.

Whether I head east or west from Burnham, the foreshore is littered with the remains of once proud little ships.

I find them very evocative, thinking of the joy they brought, of the men who built them, of the men who worked them, of all their various skills and knowledge, of their possible life stories and so on.

But then ..... I quite like running round grave yards, too.

Anyway, thanks for the pleasant daydream!

Ever thought you might be weird
