What's the normal cruising distance in a 25ft planing boat?

Hmm, well Paul I hope either any inspector is a 'bit' on the deaf side, or his noise meter has been topped up with lots of fresh Solent! When I acquired H & N it had copper exhaust pipes from the connection with Water injection right through to the outlet with NO rubber anywhere. Now that did bark, bit like yours really! It is softer with the rubber, much less tiring.

Aha, I see.
Though as much as I love small speedboats, a 170nm blast in a 25' has never been my idea of pleasure boating.
I mean, not even 20 years ago... :)

...funny you should say that - it's one of the things on my things I'd like to do one day 'bucket list'! :ambivalence:

It'd be a 21' and a 'trip for a flat day' thing, but along with the Channel Islands and Isles of Scilly, Torquay to IOW and back is one of those things I'd love to do. Probably just the once due to fuel cost!

I watched the Grand Motorboat Tour. First one round GB and Ireland. Second down to Spain and back.. It really inspired me. So much so I booked the car on a ferry and drove down..
I try to keep my total daily runs in the boat to about 50 miles total, by that time I need a decent meal , and a beer.
This means I can go 4 days before I have to buy any fuel, Which makes me really happy..for 3 days out of 4..

Some years back I saw a young couple returning from a "quick blast around Anglesey". The trip is only about 30-40 miles & has some great scenery, but it also includes several nasty overfalls, strong currents & tides meets. They were in something like a Microplus & were utterly exhausted, soaking wet & half frozen to death. I suspect that she never went out in the boat ever again.

Small fast boats are fun in the sun, but not a practical form of high speed transport.

Steve, replied by PM with a bit of clarification - probably not the right place here and wouldn't want to leave the impression that reckless madcap ventures was something to be encouraged!
