What's the most ridiculous marine quote you've ever had?

Way too many to mention on my project but the best off the top of my head was when making new keel bolts and required three lengths of A4 studding; 2 lengths at 1" dia and 1 at 3/4" dia, and associated nuts and washers, long story short, dearest quote £850 plus vat and delivery (south coast uk) quote i went with was £310 inc vat from an Irish firm (inox.ie) who were importing it from the US and included import duty and delivery to my door!

£2000 quoted for replacement cockpit canopy from Scottish sailmaker for an LM27. Bought one from the original Danish supplier, off the shelf, for £800, including Danish VAT at 25% and delivery. It fit perfectly, even all the fasteners are in exactly the right places. All the supplier wanted to know was what year was the boat made (1975), and what colour did I want.

Every quote I've ever had for a spray hood..... there seems to be some kind of cartel price of starting at £700 depending on boat size. For a bit of canvas and ally... Admittedly there is a lot of skill in the measurement but still...

Even for a standard boat with a known pattern it's the same...

These fine folk will knock you out a cover for about 350quid.

It will probably fit like an Aussie cricket cap but you can ask them to make it fuller and tickle it up yourself:

The annual berthing fees. Always feel like I'm getting shafted but that's the price of capitalism, charge what the market will tolerate and not a penny less.
