Only ask because we sent daughter and boyfriend there for a meal (by road!) saying how good the food was and they didn't think it was as good as we said - obvious frozen, microwave and boil in the bag origins.

It's always been a treat to eat there when in Bradwell Marina so I'm hoping its just that the large gentleman we know as the chef was on holiday.

We ate in there 2 days on the trot and Ali wasn't impressed with the lasagne first night but my gammon was fine, next night it became apparent the owners had had a day off and the food was much better, seems it depends who's in the kitchen.
On the whole I liked the pub and heard a few bad words about the kings head from regulars/locals, when both green man and marina bar shuts at 3.00pm the cricketers in the village opens which isn't that far away if you know the public footpaths.
I have to say I liked bradwell in general.

Dunno about recently, but if Mickey is still running it, then the base level skill and care to detail should be there.

We have had at least 2 East Coast Forum Suppers there, and I thought they were really good.

Only pub in Essex and Suffolk that I have found that will not allow me in with my guide dog. Inca and I have been to v. posh resturants, 3, 4 and 5 star hotels, pizza huts and other fast food places and dozens of resturants and pubs, but the Green Man alone will not allow him in!

Really embarrassing to be turned away due to a disability.

As we age, sooner or later we will all be disabled in some way.

That amazes me - and saddens me as well. Of all the places!

Very surprised re dog as there were 2 in there last night (Sat 11)

We were a party of 18 - My food was excellent, beer good, service quick considering they took our orders on arrival and think we had most of the menu covered. Some of the steaks looked a bit chewy but no complaints.

Inca a would have been allowed in the 'children's' area and bar but emphatically not in the Resturant. Despite being told he is a qualified guide dog and sits under my chair/table and does not budge.

It is legal sadly. Blind bloke protected by the DDA but guide dog not.

This happened about a year ago on a Sunday eve. Don't know nationality of landlord, but in my opinion his attitude was rude and abrupt.

Did think of informing Guide Dogs, they have an access officer, but dropped it in the end.

Anyway, since found much better pubs (the two in Maldon, on the Hythe) that welcome myself and Inca, no probs. Sooner give them my money:)

Report them under the DDA ;)

That also saddens me. Very narrow minded and discourteous.

Thats disgusting!!!!!
I'll take them to task over that!!

The 'Children's area' you mention is where we ate. I at 50 was the youngest so dont know if that is why we were put there! This is also the area used for rallies.

Sad they didn't let you in to the resturant but misleading to suggest they wouldnt let you in as stated in first post. Loads of people eat in the bar. Not really a lot of difference in resturant or bar from what I can see unless there is a room I havent seen.

Food looked good in Bradwell Marina Bar too - but I didnt try. Dogs in there too.

Was not going to continue hijacking this thread but would suggest you re-read my posts carefully. I saw the discussion with the landlord as discriminatory. I was told there were tables available in the resturant. Then told I could not go in there with my GUIDE DOG. Not a pet but a vital low vision aid.

As I said in post two, embarrassing in the extreme.

Nothing further to add. Hijacking now stopped. Appologies to the OP.

thanks for the updates. sorry to hear about the upset with the guide dog, but having eaten at the Green Man on lots of occasions, we've never bothered with the restaurant. we eat in the bar, and perhaps the conversation should have gone........'you're welcome to bring the guide dog into the bar and eat here'

were you actually refused service or just access to that part of the pub? you wouldn't have missed much staying in the bar as opposed to the restaurant although the children's area is a bit dreary.
