Could someone please explain the difference between a Perkins 4108M and a Perkins 4108M lowline.

I have a Lowline engine fitted and I am thinking of buying an ordinary 4108M, the question I am asking myself is will it fit, , there is plenty of depth under the engine, but I am not to sure about at the front, and access to service points.

It should show the difference in the manual. The lowline is, as the name suggests, not as large height wise as the standard. I'm guessing about 6" lower measured from the mounting brackets.

You can see the heat exchanger at the front of the engine, the lowline has it on the side, the engine blocks are the same, the lowline has the starter on the other side to mine, hope this helps,

Installed my self. it went in complete with the gearbox, engine + box weighs only 3 time the old TMP box alone. The transom came up 50m/m

Shame about the water inlet and outlet pipes, you could have painted them blue to keep up the colour co-ordination /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

When my 4-99 was replaced with a 4-107 (the 4 series engines are based on same 'lump' ) the 4-99 turned out to be a lowline, the 4-107 was not. The engineer swapped sumps and just told me that dip-stick was out by xx mm. Engine fitted fine.

Just checked my Workshop manual for marine as well as general Industrial Perkins 4 Series engines. Only mention of lowline data is in overall weight, sump capacity. All other data such as block / pistons etc. is same.

NB - I go by what the book shows me - if another can show it's wrong ... fine and I'd be first to say thanks.
