What's the chances of getting a successful sea trial on Thursday

I'm hoping to be able to sea trail a new (to me) boat on Thursday.
Boat is based on the Hamble and to be quite honest I know absolutely nothing about the Hamble.
The sea trial that was scheduled for last Thursday was cancelled because of poor weather conditions and it looks like this coming week might also be windy.
Would F6_F7 be do-able in the Southampton water area with a 43 foot planing hulled boat?
 
Depends on wind direction and state of the tide. If you turn right out of the Hamble and head up Southampton Water, it'll be more sheltered in most wind directions but not if it's blowing from the South. The Hamble is very crowded, so getting the boat in and out of her berth without being blown on to someone else may be a consideration as well.

I'd have thought you'd be OK going out in a 42 footer - but the current owner may not agree, of course....
 
I do many sea trials from the Hamble, I would have thought up to a 6 will be fine, before you go log on to Bramblemet buoy you will get wind speed and direction, you can then make your decision, Ill give you an example, this thursday I was working in Bursledon the wind was ok, id have gone out but then heard the Lymington to Yarmouth ferries had been cancelled.

If your broker or seller does his homework, put the boat on a berth thats easy to get in and out your day wont be spoiled, Southampton water is a very good place to carry out speed trials, there is a small boat channel on the Eastern side so you can keep well out of the way of any commercial traffic, the Redjets do 40knots so will just leave you standing, dont bother trying to race them!, im sure all will be ok as long as the boats up and running, and it should be , no one wants there boat there selling to break down on its sea trial and be rejected.

I can understand your desire to speed the process through, but do you really want to take someone else's boat out in a F7? I don't take mine out in anything above F4 as it just isn't any fun.

Without wanting to sound flippant, yes I sure do!
Personally I see little point in trialing a boat in near perfect conditions. Where's the "trial" in that.
That "someone elses boat" will be mine if all goes well, and even if it doesn't go well, if/when something is idntified as being a problem it can be corrected at the present owners expense and not mine.
I don't know about you but the way I see it that's the whole point of doing the trial isn't it? otherwise it shouldn't be called a sea trial it should be called a sea trip.

Sort of see your point......................not sure what sort of boat you're trialing, but surely you won't be able to put her through all her 'paces' if you're pitching and rolling..............? Saying that, our present boat trialed in a 6 and we sort of went with her because of her ability to cut through. Good Luck!!!
 
For whats its worth, we went out on the the sea trail for my purchaser in F7, the boat can handle it with ease. The only bit to be concerned about is the berthing.
With any luck I should be coming into Hamble from my collection trip, I will look out for you.

When we acquired our little 33ft FB it went out in a 6-7 from Hamble Point with about 6 peops on. VP can verify this he was consulting engineer on the trip and checked everything was working properly engine-wise! He is the guy who lifts up the engine hatches whilst at full tilt and leans down there for a look and listen:eek: 30kn in Soton water in those conditions, bit bumpy but tests everthing properly. After coming back into the Marina - nods all round and a "yep this'll do". Hope yours all goes as well

Looking out now it's ok but gather its worse tomorrow.

Would say if our staying in Southampton water you should be fine. There's a vid on here somewhere taken of our old rib in Southampton when it was blowing 6 ish. Was perfectly happy (if wet) in the 9 meter rib.

If your sea trailing a 12 ft fishing boat maybe a different story....
 
The only lumpy bit wil be going out the hamble entrance, the rest should be sheltered going up and down Southampton water.

Wish I'd have made it.
