[ QUOTE ]
I can't believe the number of replies I've had to this post... and some very cunning ideas on theft prevention. I shall certainly take on board the fake patches/indelible marker and making the outboard look as old as possible. Thank you to all who took the time to post replies.

[/ QUOTE ]So now you know the dodges folk use you can go out and nick someones tender and OB /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Re: silly insurance people?

Quote was not my post, but i do agree with you - keep it visible and, like other ideas here, they might just choose someone else's to steal! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Hope it's not yours! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: silly insurance people?

Use the shore based hook-up and electrify the motor clamp! That'll discourage the buggers and you'll know who tried to nick it 'cos the body'll still be there the following week!

God, having been the victim of theft don't you wish you could do just that?

Re: What\'s the best way to deter theft of my new tender/outboard?

as said it's all a matter of deterring would be t/leaves

I drilled a hole through the transom (near the top!) and, as others, run a wire strop through it.

When leaving the boat the tender is up on the stern and the strop run through a cleat.

if you do do this make sure you srill slightly oversize and run a sealing layer of epoxy or similar around the inside of the hole to avoid water ingress. Can look very neat. It's also one more obvious distinguishing feature !

Re: silly insurance people?

I'm sure it's intended tongue in cheek / expression of frustration, but setting man traps (person traps?) by wiring metalwork to the mains is a really bad idea. A number of people get jailed every year after trying that trick with front door metalwork.
