I have a pair of late 1970's Lewmar winches which have to be totally removed from the deck to allow a full service.
What would people suggest as a non-bonding bedding compound to allow easy removal at service time?
I was thinking of a bead of butyl tape shaped like a washer (about 2 or 3 mm thick) around each fixing bolt hole. If this would work, what tape would be best to use or, any other suggestions?

You are right about butyl; it's ideal for the task you have.

Arboseal comes in tapes of varying thicknesses and colours, or in a gun.

It is also easy to clean up with acetone, and it's important to wipe the joints so that no bead of butyl can be touched, as it is very sticky in hot sunshine.

yes, it's what I used a few months ago bedding some cleats on the toerail.

Cleat before bedding and bolting.

You could use rubber washers.
I did wonder about that. Something like the ones in a washing watching connection hose. You reckon they would be OK and keep water out? I appreciate the they do that on the washing machine and I suppose the winch will be bolted down. Perhaps a spray of silicone spray on them and maybe that would do the trick?

Yes, that sort of washer would be fine. No need for any spray. There's not going to be much water sloshing around those holding down bolts anyway.

Another thing I would do is to seal any exposed grp laminate in the bolt holes with epoxy resin.

I question whether anything is necessary. It depends upon what is underneath them but in my case it is the cockpit cave lockers. I don't care if a bit of water gets in them and they are drained anyway. If I had to remove my winches to service them I would seriously consider not sealing them at all.
