What's Ipswich like?

Re: What\'s Ipswich like?

the haven in Ipswich is good have been living there for nearly a year now (am one of 50 odd liveaboards) and we are soon to have our own club house! although I have a feeling that there is a small waiting list for berths.
If you are willing to take the ground debbages in the new cut (the part of the river which doesnt go thro into the wet dock) is dirt cheap and although a little scruffy around the edges is very friendly and allows for a quite night sleep also there is a pub right across the road called the steamboat which does good beer, food and live music.
ps dont go outside of the channel marks above the Bridge as i have managed to hit the bottom in a very small rib!

Re: What\'s Ipswich like?

We've sailed the Orwell for years and have just moved our boat to Titchmarsh. Whilst I agree with everything said about the marvellous location I have to say the having only 10hp will restrict you to leaving Ipswich on a falling tide and returning on the flood because otherwise you'll spend yor whole weekend getting to and from the sea - I know 'cos my fisr yacht was at Fox's and had a pathetic 7hp Vire engine with a SOG under engine of 4kt which wasn't enough! I know we're supposed to sail but the wind Gods always conspire against us.
