Whats happening at Woolverstone

Replacement pontoons that were scheduled for a few months time have been brought forward and work starts in a couple of weeks to install them.

The guys at Woolverstone have worked 7 days a week lifting boats to allow this to happen, a quite impressive feat. Those of us who overwinter in the water are in the up river section.

The downstream pontoons (A to D) are going to be removed in replaced with new ones in the next couple of weeks.

As far as I can tell the downstream expansion plans have stalled again as the proposed pontoon layout would have impeded the use of the jointly owned slipway just by where the fuel barge used to be.

Edit - beaten to it by one minute!

The NE gale a couple of weeks ago caused a lot of damage, to A & B pontoons, and the "bridge" which gave access to A pontoon, such that they moved a lot of yachts away - to Levington I have heard - and closed access to those pontoons as it was considered unsafe.

Part of the cause was that removing the barges left these pontoons much more exposed to the NE, as the barges had acted as a wave break, or so I have been told.

Whether as a result they have brought forward their refurbishment program I don't know.

Great News! I am delighted to confirm that we have this week, received approval from the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) to commence work to re pile and replace A, B, C and D pontoons. Walcon Marine, our preferred contractor, are due to commence work on the new pontoon installation on Monday 18th November 2013. However you may see them around over the coming days, removing old pontoons and equipment in preparation.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your patience and co-operation during the last few weeks and we look forward to bringing you more updates as we progress through the project.
