What\'s Happened To The Royal Cork Yacht Club

I first went there in 1990. This year I visited again and I didn't recognise the place. What have they done? Is it a different building?
It was the finest yacht club I ever visisted. Is my memory playing tricks with me?
Does anybody know?

Peter Cumberlidge did a Yachting Monthly pull-out guide to Cork Harbour (no: 56) in their April 2003 edition which I seem to remember mentioned the R.C.Y.C. (The oldest yacht club in the British Isles!) Go to the magazine indexes above, follow the links and you may be able to get a copy of the guide.

Cheers!

Brett,

The guy who wrote this History of the RCYC can give you the answer to your question

It's still a lovely club with excellent facilities and very welcoming. Perhaps they've changed the bars around.
Maybe you're right, it's just my memory playing tricks.

The RCYC is a really nice place - old-fashioned, right down to the "public school" style of showers. Crosshaven has a startling number of bars but little else (try "Jonnie's Return" on a music night, but don't bother getting there before 2200). Good shopping in Carrigaline a short bus-ride or pleasant hour's walk away.
