I dont mean the mail order internet business I mean their shop front in Inverness.
When their Mega Marine Superstore opened about ten years ago it was an Aladins cave with aisles stashed to the brim with electronics;anchors;steering;lifejackes;Buoys and floats etc etc.-most of it has now disappeared to be replaced by overpriced clothing.
Sorry Gaelforce I dont get it!

Does not bear any resemblance to the store I was in two weeks ago. Yes a few clothing rails at the front, but the rest, about 90%, was chandlery for all boats from canoes through to yachts and commercial and lots of it. And it's a great deal bigger than Bosuns Locker in PE which is at least 50% clothing.

As a matter of course when I had some spare time in between Tescos I would always pop into the store and often walk out with something.
Whilst a couple of months ago I bought one of the big deep cycling batteries and as always the really good value own brand anti foul I used to enjoy browsing the shelves full of marine hardware just as I enjoy browsing the shelves at HIS Ironmongery store in Inverness.
For those who dont remember this you used to walk in to a shop front counter. All the high shelves used to come down almost to the counters. To the left there was an area displaying marine electronics with plotters set up to try out.All the aisles to the far right were stocked with buoys of all types and sizes;ropes and twines;.shackles of all sorts and ratings etc
Luckily I still have a copy of the old catalogue which includes most of the so called commercial hardware.
Please note Fishy this is not a personal attack on Gaelforce which still offers great online deals its just that I prefer a visually exciting sales environment to browse in reflecting the products that a business has in stock and I do not feel that the store in Inverness does this anymore..

Oh, that's ok ffiil, i'm more thick skinned than to think anything is a personal attack, except for obvious ones! Everyone has an opinion and it would be a truly bland world if we all agreed all the time! ;) Also, like I said in last years' post, I'm very lowly and don't really have a huge amount of power to influence much!

We had a look at pictures from 11 years ago though (we do pay attention to customer comments!), and interestingly the shelves were in the same orientation and height that they are now...seems we changed them around 5 or so years ago, then went back to an eye level shelf again last year.

Hand on heart though, the stock ratio has remained the same, it's just that clothing (including inherent Lifejacket suits) has taken prominence towards the front and side, due to customer demand, honestly!
