Hi,
Does anybody know what's happen to Thornycroft I have one of there engines and need a part but there web site is permanently down and nobody answers the phone. alternatively if you know of a different spares provider please let me know. getting desperate.

According to Wikipedia these are Mitsubishi derived engines so engine parts should be easy to get.
Lancing and asap supplies appear to stock parts.
Certainly if you get talking to the boss at Lancing he will tell you anything you need to know.

The Thornycroft bran was sold to an Indian company some years ago when Leyland collapsed. They continued to supply engines until recently but for the last few years have only supplied spares. As noted it seems they have dropped of the edge recently. If you need spares it will depend what your base engine was. As noted the recent engines were Mitsubishi based so many parts will be available i other parts of the Mitsubishi supply chain. For the earlier engines you may have to be more creative. Most were based on BMC/Leyland units. The 1.5 and 2.5 engines were widely used in canal boats and there are still companies who will even do full reconditioning.

ASAP carry many Thornycroft spares and can be very helpful, At the end of the day you will find google will be your little helper

AIU cylinder heads and water pumps for the BMC engines are unavailable but everything else shouldn't be a problem. Certainly cheaper than Volvo parts. Contact ASAP, they should be able to sort you out.

I have a T90 and needed to replace various parts of the cooling system a couple of months ago. Both ASAP and Lancing Marine had everything I needed but most of the business went to Lancing because they knew more about doing the job and could tell me (and supply) all the extra bits of hose, gasket, bolts etc that I needed.

Not correct. The BMC/BL engine manufacturing was taken over in India. AMC Diesels who used to marinise BMC engines (and others) took over the Thornycroft name and many of their later engines were Mitsubishi based. Thornycroft have now stopped building engines but are operating a spares service. According to recent information, Mike Bamford has been in hospital but is now out and can be contacted on 01772 611144. The web site was/is down.

Alternatively, for Mitsubishi based engines, Diamond Diesels are the UK importers and carry spares.

The BMC 2.2 and laterly 2.5 was the standard London Taxi engine so I am sure there will be plenty of spares.
I converted a 2a landrover to one many years ago and a good reliable engine.

I love that expression which the Calcuttboatshop uses "Previously Enjoyed" Unfortunately they dont seem to do stuff for the 2.5 or 2.52 BMC Diesel (Thornycroft 154)
I am thinking of buying a complete engine as a spare, if anyone knows of one.

A friend of mine considered buying a mobo for its twin BMC 2.5l (I think!) engines. Sell/scrap boat and keep one engine as spare. He later decided against it though. Asking price was around £9k IIRC. I could ask him for details if you want.

Keep an eye on ebay - there are often marinised BMC 1.5's offered.

Always used Lancing, great service. They sent bits to us all over the place.

Engine was still going great at 35 years old but the salt water cooled TMP gearbox blew a big hole in the casing. Binned whole thing and fitted a Yanmar. Its a lot quicker to type that than actually do it.........

Try Marine Enterprises Ltd. They specialise in S/h marine diesels and I think they have taken over the Thornycroft spares supply.
I may be wrong ,but worth trying(I bought a T90 from them a coule of years ago) .Very helpful and shipped it to Portugal.
