Calling all UK-based boat owners – as part of MBY's Perfect Weekend series on cruising in the UK, I'd like to see what boating is like in your local area.

Please post a few photos and accompanying captions which show how blissful boating can be in your cruising area.

If I like what I see, I'll contact you with a view to helping you write up a short article for the magazine. I'll even pay you for the privilege!

There are loads of popular boating areas we still haven't covered including Chichester, Brighton, Dover, Milford Haven, Firth of Clyde, Isle of Man, Weymouth and dozens more. All suggestions welcome.

Many thanks

Hugo

North Wales can be the perfect place to visit, great weather and sheltered waters.

Secluded bays with few other boaters.

Traditional pubs only accessable by boat or foot.

And the rest of the family love it too.

Been in Chichester for 3 years now - it is such a honey trap and we love our berth so much that we have taken her out of the Marina 4 times:o so we can't help:D

May
xx

PS We hope to move her down to the West Country in May - perhaps pastures new will get us moving again

Landlocked pirate, North Wales looks lovely too but we have already published one story on the Menai Straits area. Is this your boating area too or could you cover another part of North Wales?

How far is a weekend Hugo, once you go to the trouble to get your boat ready and cast off does a few hours make much difference ?

May,

That's a lame excuse! You must now know Chichester better than anyone. Get your camera out and starting snapping!

Hi Daka,

The idea of the Perfect Weekend series is to enjoy a laid back 48hrs in one localised cruising area ie no more than 20nm from any given base. You can take as long as you like to get there but once you've arrived in St Peter Port or wherever, the plan is to enjoy the immediate surroundings rather than head off elsewhere.
Judging from your (very appealing) photos you seem to be something of a Channel Islands regular. We have just published a PW on Guernsey, Herm and Sark in the March issue of MBY but I'm happy to consider another part of the CI or anywhere else you know well and have nice potos of around your Solent cruising grounds. We've done something on the Western Solent but nowhere East of Cowes for instance?

We cover the Bristol Channel, based at Portishead and regularly cruise Cardiff, Chepstow, Watchet, Swansea. Currently on the worky laptop so don't have pics handy but can add some this evening. Lots of good things about the Bristol Channel, but a few challenges too; be prepared for brown in the pics though!

Hi WhiteMischief. Looking forward to seeing some of your pics, even with the brown! The Bristol Channel is on our list of areas to cover. Do you ever get as far as Milford Haven?

Hugo

Philiz,

I thought you did a great job selling the delights of N Wales in MBY and hope that a few others here will be encouraged to do something similar for their cruising areas. After all if you can do it, anybody can!

And yes, if you've got the photos and knowledge to cover the Isle of Man, I'd love you to write a Perfect Weekend story on it.

Hi Hugo

Yep we made it as far as Milford Haven last year for our summer hols and had a great time there - got pics of that too. Had an interesting experience getting there; past the Castle Martin firing range and the St Govans shoals, 5.5 hours in a Portofino 31 in 'sporty' conditions - nearly put the family off for life :-). We were going to head on to Ireland but didn't get the weather window so thought better of it.

Daka,

I feel a Ryde / Benbridge / Osbourne bay w/e coming on here

Hmm, if you really restrict it to "my area" then thankfully boating is really quiet here in Wokingham/Woodley otherwise we would have a serious flood/climate change issue!

As we trailer it, just about anywhere is our area, but here are a few from as local as we can get - the Thames (no wake shots then!)

Wow, stunning pics mlines. Sadly, MBY's remit doesn't run this far up river. It might be worth you contacting Carl at MBM to see if he's interested in taking something from you.

On a wider note, you don't have to write about your own immediate local area. If you know other areas of the UK coast well enough and have a big enough stash of photos to put together a really convincing Perfect Weekend cruising story, you can happily stray outside your home grounds.
