I'm replacing the boat name letters. I've removed the old letters and any sticky residue but am now left with the yellow discolouring of where they used to be. I'm not at the boat til later today so not yet tried anything but I've got some 3M polish (thanks Paul) which I'm hoping will do the trick but if not, is there a specific product I should use?
Thanks

:)

I used Y10 (oxalic acid) which seemed to fade it very slightly, then used 3M fast cutting compound on a rotary polisher followed up with a fine polish.
It didn't remove it completely, but did enough of a job that it wasn't really noticeable.
The few hours of "sunshine" we've had this Year seem to have helped as well as you can't see it now unless you look really hard. .

I don't think the Y10 was really worth using though, the polish had the biggest effect.

I should add that my lettering had been on a very long time so the yellowing had permeated the gelcoat.
If yours is just surface, it might be easier to remove.
Good luck! :)

When I bought my boat I changed the name, and when we peeled the old vinyl lettering off the gel coat was shinier under the old letters than everywhere else. Solution was to flat the whole area off with fine wet and dry, then polish. Worked perfectly.
