What's best for sealing 1/4" BSP brass fuel pipe fittings

I have the choice of

1.PTFE tape

or

2. some old and slightly lumpy off-white pipe sealing paste/goo.

What's best?

Ideally I want the ability to tighten the fittings such that they face a particular way, will PTFE tape give me this flexibility?

If they are compression fittings nothing, though I use Clessetite as a lubricant to make tightening more even and finish where I want if using BSP fittings.

I would use a smear of loctite 577, perhaps with a wrap of ptfe tape. Used this method when I reinstalled my fuel systems 18 months ago and not a single drip since from any of numerous joints. Some do get very anti about using ptfe tape on compression fittings - works for me.

For a permanent job smear the threads with solder flux, screw the fittings together in the required attitude and then solder in the same way as end feed fittings. These are not considered solder joints in the same way as normal end feed types as the solder is simply a permanent seal rather than a fixing.

You want Hylomar Universal Blue, or something similar.

If the seal is made on the thread ... ie tapered threads you need some sort of jointing compound ....... or tape ?????.... but tape would be frowned upon if bits could find their way into the pump or injector .

Parallel threaded fittings should tighten onto a joint washer of some kind which will make the seal.

I would use Gas Tite or Wellseal.

Fernox LSX is a clear jointing gel. I have used it on Water gas and fuel lines for years with no ill effects. If you do need to break a joint, you can rub the Fernox off with your fingers to get clean mating surfaces and/or clear threads. Much better than ptfe tape or "plumber's white".
