Whats a average cost of removing a mast for transport?

Thats not bad actually he said he cant do it for a while.....:disgust: soi may go down and hugg the keel lol I take it the standing rigging just unscrews or something? Jesus this is a learning curve lol

The yard will have a standard charge for unstepping the mast, but you need to do more work to secure it for transport. You can either do it yourself or pay somebody to do it. Main jobs are disconnecting the electrics and securing the rigging to the mast for stowage on the truck. You may find it worthwhile removing the rigging and having it inspected thoroughly by a rigger the other end before you put it up again.

Over the last couple of weeks I managed to drop the mast on my Verl 27, using a halyard and a mainsheet to control the mast on the way down and a jin-pole and 2000 lb winch attached to my Shogun to get the mast back up again. I used a halyard to hold the mast up while disconnecting the forestay then let the mast gently down by easing the main sheet attached to the forestay. OK up to a point, then we had to go aft and catch the mast as it was lowered. I made a jin pole (look on Youtube for stepping masts) connected the forestay to it and connected the winch to it as well. gentle winding soon had the mast back upright. The shrouds did not need loosening as they are led aft of the mast tabernacle an as the mast is lowered they slacken off. Oh and don't forget the baby stay.
My boatyard charge £60 for the hire of a couple of people and the crane to lift/lower a mast.
