When I was a wee boy, newspaper reports of Clyde Week always included the Pleiades class. They were a one-design class from, I think, the 20s, each named after one of the stars in the constellation. Somewhere around seven out of ten of them were still racing in to the 1980s.

Anyone know what happened to them? Is classic racing still part of whatever Clyde Week has become now? One day I'll have a Loch Long ...

Strangely I was thinking the same thing a wee while ago while looking at the night sky and trying to find the constellation. Memory is there were only seven of them (seven sisters = Alcyone, Asterope, Celæno, Electra, Maia, Merope, Taygete), gunter rigged with a wee bowsprit. Pretty wee boats but I haven't seen one for years.

I used to go sailing on "Kelpie", the last of the Innellan class. She has lain almost abandoned for years, but I am told that she has a new owner and a restoration will start soon.
