Out of date: fire-extinguishers /liferaft-service /flares /Fray Bentos pies?

Planning on spending a month in Brittany his summer, so a reminder of the essential list of how not to get caught out by French bureaucracy will be much appreciated.

And do I need an ICC just to go upriver a bit to lock into some town marina?

Nothing. Just follow the guidance. Registration document, passport, VHF, insurance. None of the Brittany rivers need an ICC.

Enjoy.

I was crewing when I went so the only one relevant to me was passport. And I forgot that! No problem though as we never saw any officials at all. In fact, most of the 'harbour masters' we saw seemed to be 18-20 year old lads who were only interested in whizzing about in the dory and chatting to girls. What a job ....

in 12 years of sailing in France I have only ever been boarded for a random check by the Douanes twice. Each time, they just had a quick look around the boat, had a chat, decided all was in order, and left. They never checked any papers or safety equipment.

They only start going into paperwork etc if they have some reason to believe that there is something dodgy about the crew and the boat.

We have spent most of the last 15 'summers' cruising the Brittany and Normandy coast. No official has ever taken the slightest interest in us, our boat, or our comings and goings.

Long may it continue! :D

No

We checked before visiting Vannes, also Redon on Villaine above Arzal barage.

I believe this is also true for the some of the RANCE

To be pedantic I am sure you really know that you would need a liitle more than just an ICC for canals anyhow! (CEFNI endorsement)

Just make sure your red duster and SSR no. is visible and for your own peace of mind take insurance passports and SSR original cert

As others suggest you will probably never be asked to produce.

TCs or Cumberlidge pilots mentioned ICC for the Rance

It is only the parts of the Rance and Villaine above the barages that are NOT controlled by VNF where you do not need ICC and cefni endorsement.

Think maybe the Pilots you mention might be outdated.:)
