Fecamp - the furtherest I ventured this season. Note the remenants of fog in the left on the picture, when we entered the piers were not visible until we were in actually in the harbour.
currently in Portosin assisting a pyromaniac move his boat south. 'Interesting' Biscay crossing, now feet up, shorts and T shirt, contemplating Siesta ( a requirement here I believe), wondering when to crack the first beer. Oh well, it's pretty tough at the moment
Sailed twice this year, maybe get out for a third time this weekend. But did manage a first for me which was to anchor up and stay overnight, got up early the next morning and went back to mooring under asymetric, oh and I was sailing solo. Hopefully will manage to get a few more sails in. Oh the joys of running your own business at weekends.
Well , we had a late start due to the boat undergoing a lot of work but I managed to get her in the water first week in August .
We then headed up the coast to Ipswich haven marina for a couple of days then
Back to Shotley for a day or so , the pirate w/e was then upon us and I wanted to go to that but a non working bog put a stop to overnighting at anchor .
Stopped at Tichmarsh for about 4 days while I fixed the loo and waiting for strong winds to abate , back Burnham under engine as wind abated to nothing .
Since then I have had a couple of day sails and that's it so far .
Looking foward to a early start next yr and getting some mileage under her keels
Well it's been mixed. August was good with two trips in the sun and the past three days have been great. Bradwell, Burnham, N. Fambridge, Paglesham for lunch today and a blistering hot return today with a stonking sail back across the Raysand over 6 knots with the chute up. Almost too hot at times.
Mileage this year is 485 which with no foreign trips is pretty good. More to come hopefully.
Our season has not yet started given change of boat and refit that has been underway. But we can see light at the end of the tunnel! Planning to make the most of the autumn and then stay in the water over winter which will be a first. Hoping that will enable us to get to know our new boat as well as provide some interesting days out on the water.
Controlling ones urge to get out and sail has been marginally tempered by a trip to the Scillies where I met up with ScillyPete a fellow forumite as wellas ploughing through the various options for refit!
Hoping we may get an Indian summer?!
Our main cruise was in June. We did get to most of the places we planned, but spent a lot of time in them waiting for another gale to blow through. 4 gales in 4 weeks. A memorable moment was having drinks on board a friend's Hood 43 moored in Chatham and having to hold onto our drinks, else they would slide off the saloon table!
Since then we had a lovely week on the Alde/Ore/Deben, and some shorter local trips when the sun was shining.
Our main failure was not getting to Southwold as the week we had planned to go it blew old boots again from the NE.
We got back last Tuesday having been away since the start of May. We clocked up 2096 miles, and got as far as Bornholm (Danish island off the south coast of Sweden, which is a wonderful island, by the way). Weather was mixed, but we got plenty of excellent sailing, and fair number of bike rides in between.
We hope to catch up with everyone soon - what have we missed? Is a laying down supper happening soon?
Early July we set off from Fambridge to Lymington via Dover, Eastbourne.
We came back 4 weeks later via Gosport, Eastbourne with the final hop to Fambridge 102 miles in 15 hours. Also had a weekend away in Rochester staying in Chatham marina. A few picture to follow hopfully this will be the third time I've tried this.
Useless from a sailing point of view. First year running a new business in spite of the efforts of our dearly belovedest bank hasn't left any time at all tbh.
Had planned some weeks off with Sagudaynauts in August but spent literally the whole month working and never made it down. Still have a vain hope of the odd weekend and perhaps the last week in October (which is kids half term) but likely to be ****e weather of course.
we had a mixed bag this year due to the weather, done about 1100 miles.
few trips up the east coast at weekends
main trip was st marlo and the channel islands over 3 weeks did about 800 miles but didnt manage to get to holland this year, hope to next year now.
Excellent despite challenging weather and need to change direction!
Went to Ramsgate, Dover then Boulogne hoping to go down to Dieppe and Honfleur but got headed (early July). Gave up and turned NE; Calais (nicer than expected), Ostend (shouty Robert), Breskens (surfing 11.2 kts, genoa only), Antwerp (7 hours of motorway sailing). Then we really got lucky and the wind came round to NE, back to Breskens, Ostend, then a 14 hr. sail (broad reach) back to Harwich. Used the iron tops'l for well under 20 hrs.
Got wet, some got seasick but if you can't take a joke..............
Managed to time our two weeks of when the weather turned at the end of July. No cross channel trip this year just explored our East Coast a bit more. We were looking for a fortnight of gentle relaxation rather than passage making.
Excuse the over use of transitions it was a bit of a test...
